JK’s grand Mufti dies at 82; political leaders, religious organization express grief | KNO

Srinagar, February 12 (KNO) : Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Bashir-ud-Din passed away on Tuesday morning. His family said that Mufti Bashir, 82, was admitted at SKIMS hospital where he breathed his last at around 03:00 am in the night. Meanwhile, Mufti Bashir’s funeral was held at 3:30 pm at Khanqah e Moula, Srinagar. Various political leaders and religious organizations on Tuesday expressed grief over the demise of Grand Mufti, Bashir-ud-din. National Conference Vice President and former JK chief minister, Omar Abdullah extended condolences with the bereaved family. "May Allah grant heaven to Mufti Bashir-ud-Din. My condolences to the family at this time of great personal loss," Omar tweeted. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and said “Kashmir has lost a respected religious scholar ad thought leader in him.” "Sad to learn about passing away of Mufti Bashiruddin saheb. In him Kashmir lost a respected religious scholar and thought leader... Stand in solidarity with the family and followers of Mufti saheb," Mehbooba tweeted. Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) also condoled the passing away of Grand Mufti Mufti Bashir U Din, who breathed his last today morning and conveyed deepest condolences to bereaved family. Congress described Grand Mufti as ‘an illustrious son of the soil’, who has contributed immensely to the religious education, he will always be remembered for his head and heart qualities. JKPCC President, Ghulam Ahmad Mir expressed profound grief over the passing away of Grand Mufti, describing his demise as a great loss to the State and people as well. Mir conveyed deepest condolences to bereaved family of Grand Mufti and sympathized with them, he also prayed for eternal peace to departed soul. CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has condoled the demise of Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir Bashir-ud-Din, who passed away on Tuesday. Mufti Bashir-ud-Din was a social and religious leader and in his death, Kashmir has lost a great human being, Tarigami said while expressing sympathies with the bereaved family. Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Muhammad Yasin Malik has expressed his heartfelt grief and sorrow over his demise. Malik along with a delegation comprising of vice chairman Mushtaq Ajmal and others visited the residence of grand Mufti, met with his bereaved family and expressed his condolences to them. Terming late Mufti as ‘an iconic Islamic scholar and social figure’, Malik said that his efforts for social harmony and spreading Islam will be always remembered. While praying for the heavenly abode of late grand mufti, JKLF chiefalso prayed for Sabr-I-Jamil of his bereaved family. On the directions of JKLF chairman, a delegation of JKLF also participated in funeral prayers of late grand Mufti. Jama’at-e-Islami held a condolence meet at its headquarters in Batamaloo, which was presided by Ameer Jama’at Dr Abdul Hameed Fayaz wherein deep grief and sorrow was expressed on his demise. Participants of the meeting at this juncture paid tributes to the contributions by deceased.Also, a high level delegations led by Ameer Jama’at also visited the bereaved family and expressed sympathy with them. Delegation also took part in the funeral prayers of Late Grand Mufti. Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) also expressed deep shock and grief over the passing away of Mufti Azam Mufti Bashir ul Din Ahmad Farouqi. The party said that by passing away of Mufti Azam the state has suffered a huge loss which is very hard to compensate. The spokesperson said in a statement issued to KNO that Mufti Azam Mufti Bashir-ul-Din had very close relationship with the JKDFP incarcerated chief Shabir Shah who had a great respect for the deceased. “Mufti Azam Mufti Bashir ul Din was a great personality of the state and he has played a positive role in the social and religious matters for which he will always be remembered for,” he said. A delegation also participated in the Nimaz-e-Jinaza of Mufti Azam and met the bereaved to condole them. The party prayed for the departed soul and expressed solidarity with the bereaved.(KNO)
